Azar

“The Land of Demons”, Azar The Dark lies to the west across the Sea of Ithangar. It is a land that very little is known about in the lands of Ta Los and is filled with thick jungles, tall craggy peaks and winding rivers that disappear into the shadows of the trees.

It is an ancient land that few dare to explore, and most that have set off to claim the treasure of Azar have never been seen again. Most of the land has only been seen from a distance in sailing or airships, few captains are willing to get even within a 20 leagues of the land both on the sea and from the air. The waters of the Sea around Azar are rough, extremely deep and hold many dark secrets, some believe that there exists rift openings to other dimensions, other universes. The clouds hide similar dangerous creatures. There is a dark magic over the land, one that binds these creatures and monstrosities to it.

The Islands of Zuuthan that exist on the northern side of the continent have seen a number of attempts to be “colonized” by adventurers, but these have always ended with the death of the village by strange and unusual magic.

Accounts from those few lucky survivors tell tales of lost cities built of stone, horrific monsters, and giant sized beasts that roam the lands often fighting amongst themselves as much as destroying any settlements that might attempt to gain a foothold. They also speak of tribes of humanoids distantly related to the Junde and Dejah peoples, who live in remote locations and behind thick walls on the smaller islands near Azar.

Viewed from the safety of a passing ship Azar is dominated by a series of high mountains that run down its center, these are thought to be nearly 34,000 feet in height and are surrounded by perpetual storm of dark clouds.

The vast portion of the land is covered in thick forests and jungles hang about the mountains like a black lake. Occasionally, high hills can be seen rising out of the sea of trees like some mysterious sea creature breaching dark waters.

In 1386 B.F.A (Before First Age) a contingent of sailing vessels from the Duchy of Mashrapur set sail for the dark continent, lead by the Crusader Jean Capierre and Priestess Athaga Cromstone. It is assumed that the explorers perished in the sea travel or on the continent itself as they were never seen from again. A thousand years later, a small boat washed up on the distant shores of the Empire of Resh, it was empty save for a scale of some lizard or creature that was tall as a Fhen Khanur and three barrels wide.

In recent years with the advancement of greater aradgah, attempts to infiltrate the interior of the island has met with some success but there is still a great deal of danger from creatures that swat at high flying khrusthars or take these massive ships out of the sky from above. Often called rhisajtor these gargantuan monsters have, fortunately, yet to be seen beyond the borders of the shores of Azar.
