Baligrog Mountains

The Baligrog Mountains are considered the youngest of the mountain ranges in Ta Los and has always been an active mountain range with earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Between 4,255 B.F.A. and 4,000 B.F.A during what was known as the War of the Accursed Lands the Baligrog Mountains underwent a massive change as the three Celestial Overlords, Elal and Gishra stood against the Lord of Blackness Azahak as he attempted to take control of world by opening planar rifts on the Plains of Guriish east of the Baligrog Mountains.

With the opening of the portals Azahak launched an attack that would devastate one-quarter of Ta Los. Thus, he began the Second Convergence of Planes and started the War of the Accursed Lands. Demons, devils and fiends along with the holy hosts of Elal and Gishra fought on the plains and among the mountains for over 200 years, never did Azahak's forces advanced beyond the western reaches of the mountains or beyond the eastern shores.

Legend holds that both Gishra and Elal understood that to end the war they would have to make a significant sacrifice. Thus, Gishra the Great Mother chose to leave the Celestial Realms and sacrifice a portion of her divinity and laid a curse so profane on the mountains, the Plains of Gurrish that it instantly vaporized nearly all the unholy forces, who disappeared into a thick bluish mist as it rushed through the region.

The Baligrog Mountains trembled, shook and exploded creating hidden valleys, sheer cliffs and blasted regions. The Plains of Gurrish sunk into the Al-Ulzhar Wastes, and the eastern shores rose into the Plateaus of Gehen. Legend holds that the Baligrog Mountains rose 5,000 feet that day and the peaks of the mountains look like jagged, pointed teeth.

The whole region became engulfed in the blue-white mists that destroyed the unholy armies of Azahak, the Plains of Gurrish became cursed, nearly barren and home to demons, devils and other evil, vile creatures. Gishra cursed the ground such that all things that live within or come forth from the Accursed Lands cannot leave.

Today, standing as a wall between the Accursed Lands and the rest of Ta Los, the Baligrog Mountains are known for the mists that misdirect, confuse and cause a stupor in those that travel them and only the Armandu and Tsingari are thought to be the only ones that know the pathways to entering and leaving.
