Black Lake

Black Lake

Black Lake is situated within the Crys Hills at the foot of the Sazar Crys Mountains. Though not large compared to the great lakes of Ta Los, it is unusually deep for its size, reaching nearly 1,500 feet at its deepest point.

The waters of Black Lake appear dark, almost black, due to the black granite rift in which the lake rests. Its remote and wild location among the forested hills, combined with the ancient nature of the lake itself, has given rise to a long history of bizarre events, strange occurrences, legends, myths, and folklore.

One of the oldest stories concerning Black Lake stretches back to the formation of the world and the Omniverse. According to this tale, the lake is, or once was, a portion of the Ny Shar plane of water. Others believe that the waters are protected by a powerful Water Dragon that lives at the bottom of the lake.

At certain times of the year, strange lights of varying colors have been seen hovering over the surface of the lake. Some witnesses claim these lights drift silently across the water before vanishing beneath the surface. Other legends suggest that Black Lake is also a gate to other worlds and dimensions.

Because of these stories, Black Lake is treated with deep respect by locals. Fishermen, hunters, and travelers rarely cross its waters without making some small offering or whispering a prayer to the gods.
