Desaryn Mountains

The Desaryn Mountains rise out of the surrounding lands and reach magnificent heights in their short run between the Dhunadin Sea and the Sea of Ithangar. Originally, these mountains stretched beyond the current Dhunadin Sea, that was created in 9000 B.F.A., to the far east where the current day Baligrog Mountains that surround the Baronies of Vishraan.

The central Desaryn Mountains serve as the land for Baar Dysh and divider of the Western and Southern Realms. The range of mountains have incredibly high peaks, the highest of which is the Dark Spire, reaching a height of 34,000 feet. The range is also cut right in half at the foot of the Dark Spire by the Savage Corridor which runs north to south from Garandor to the lands of Dardura Sheva.

The mountains themselves are incredibly tall, often ending in high pointed shapes made up of many dark valleys, deep glacier lakes and many “corridors” between them giving the whole range the appearance of a gigantic maze.

There are hundreds and hundreds of caves, crevasses, and holes in which many monsters and other species make their home. Many of the deep valleys see very little sunlight, and many are filled with cold water creating deep, dark waterways from which other monsters and creatures crawl out from.

Located in the central portion of the mountains, surrounding the Dark Spire, in a region called the Islands of Mist, sit the many and varied villages of the nation of Baar Dysh. Most of these villages are built either upon largest (some nearly 1/2 mile in diameter) the 10,000 islands of quartzite sandstone pillars (sky columns or dalkimi) and peaks, or upon the lower flat table-like tops of smaller mountains, often with different villages built on the same level but separated by a deep, dark valley. There are very view roads between these locations, their extreme heights and sheer cliffs making them utterly useless. In nearly all cases these locales are accessed by very long, strong rope bridges connecting them, and are constantly repaired by the various monks that inhabit the lands around them. It is not uncommon to see an airship or two in the region or the use of gliders to move between the villages.
